Dr. Fairytale
When seriously ill children and their families need more than medicine, the
Dr. Fairytale Program creates joy,
emotional balance and hope.
The Dr. Fairytale Program
Founded 16 years ago by physician Tatjana Maya MD, the Dr. Fairytale Program brings the educational and healing value of fairy tales and
storytelling to seriously ill children and their families, in the hospital, in crisis areas and at home. When families need support, Dr. Fairytale is there with award-winning programs, available at no cost to those in need - in New York, across the nation and internationally.
The Need
About one in 300 boys and one in 333 girls will develop cancer before their 20th birthday. When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, they are coping with emotional distress and anxiety. Their needs go far beyond what even the best medical care can provide.
They need an outlet to cope with their emotions, they need friends who give them hope, they need good stories, which help them heal their souls: fairy tales.
Why Fairy Tales
Fairy tales deliver messages of growth and transformation. They are healing stories that teach children how to overcome challenges and help them cope with feelings of fear, anxiety, and depression. Fairy tales restore joy, hope and laughter to the lives of children and families at a time often laden with stress and uncertainty.
What We Do
When seriously ill kids and their families need more
than medicine, Dr. Fairytale is there with compassion and innovation, creating moments of creativity, joy and hope, in the hospital and at home. Managed by a professional staff and powered by volunteers, Dr. Fairytale brings the wealth of fairy tales and their transformational power in a time of crisis, friendship in a time of loneliness, and vital support in the midst of
life-threatening illness.

Feedback from past performances:
"Thank you so much for the two performances of the Frog Prince. The children loved it and the actors were superb! The Dr. Fairytale Program is a wonderful program for children. It was great to see our children laughing and interacting with the actors."
Angela Torres
Director of Easter Seals NY
"You guys are truly amazing. I don't think there's a single outside group that comes in that connects with the children as well as your group does. Simply brilliant!"

"On behalf of the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital I would like to thank your team for generously donating your time to perform for our patients and families. Through your performance, the children were able to become part of Little Red Riding Hood's adventures as she journeyed to grandma's house. The feedback from patients, families, and staff was wonderful and I know that everyone had an amazing time."
Sincerely, Moria Balseca
Event Coordinator at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital
"Words cannot describe the amazement and enthusiasm the children of the Manhattan Child Advocacy Center exhibited throughout the performance of 'The Frog Prince' by the Galli Theater. The warm and friendly theater staff left the young audience (and their parents) mesmerized, as the actors incorporated the children and the surroundings into the play, making everything quite surreal. The MCAC is honored to have had the Galli Theater perform at our center and help in passing important life lessons to the many children who enjoyed the play. Thank you, Galli Theater! Thanks so much!"
